Teachers notes for WOTM
An extensive set of teachers notes for Who’s on the Money? have just gone up on the black dog books website.
They’re a great resource for getting the most out of the book and are full of suggestions for creating classroom activities on the many topics it covers: Aboriginal history, children’s rights, conflict in Australian history, convict history, cultural heritage, democracy, environment, European exploration and early settlement, Federation, lawmaking, Parliament, poverty, qualities of leadership, the Constitution, women’s rights, worker’s rights…
One of my favourite suggestions is for students to choose an Australian to appear on a new $100 note and to write about their achievements and design a note that celebrates their contribution to Australian life. I’d love to see what people come up with!
Oh, and the notes refer to me as a ‘history detective’, which is awesome.
You can find the teachers notes on the Who’s on the Money? page at the black dog books website, or from the teachers page at www.bdb.com.au/teachers.
