So what’s next?
Now that Who’s On The Money? is out, I’m hard at work on the proposal for my next book. (Though maybe “hard at work” isn’t the best way of putting it, since I’ve just found time to write this blog post.)
Anyway, the idea of a proposal is to say to a publisher, “This is what I plan to write about, and this is how I plan to do it.” It’s also where you try to find out if there are any other books like the one you’re going to write, and to explain why yours is going to be different — and better!
This next book is going to be a history of Australia told not through money but through stamps. (At the moment it’s called Stuck On History but this may change.)
This is my third go at doing the proposal for this book: it’s really a process of making sure that the writer and the publisher have the same expectations of what the book’s going to be, so it makes sense to get it all locked in at this early stage.
It’s when the proposal is accepted that the real work begins. I hope I have time to write a few more blog posts along the way!
